Is IV Therapy Worth It?

It seems like IV therapy is becoming increasingly popular these days. Med spas now offer a variety of IV options, including Immunity Boosting, Beauty Infusions, Myers Cocktail, and NAD (Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), which are among the most sought-after. Recently, numerous IV franchises have emerged, and mobile IV units are even available to come directly to your location.

So, what exactly is IV therapy? Simply put, it’s a method of delivering vitamins or medications directly into the bloodstream for immediate absorption. By bypassing the digestive system, the body can fully utilize the nutrients without any loss of potency.

Why am I sharing this today? To be honest, I’ve been feeling utterly exhausted for months. Juggling a busy schedule and recovering from foot surgery in July has taken its toll. Although the surgery went well, the added stress pushed me over the edge, and I struggled to combat the fatigue. With my birthday tomorrow, I decided to try something new: I booked a Myers Cocktail IV appointment to see if it could help lift my energy levels.

I confidently made the call and arrived on time. The technician had everything ready, and as I settled into the chair, we chatted while she prepared my arm. Before I knew it, I was receiving my first therapeutic IV. The session lasted about 45 minutes, and I noticed a slight improvement in how I felt once I got up. After saying goodbye, I made a mental note of my feelings to assess whether the experience was “worth it.” Today, I can genuinely say I feel much more like my usual self and significantly less fatigued.

So, what’s in the Myers Cocktail? While ingredient amounts can vary by provider, it typically includes magnesium, calcium, vitamin B12, B-complex vitamins (like niacin, thiamine, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, and vitamin B6), and vitamin C. This combination likely contributes to my renewed energy. I recognize that a good multivitamin might also help, and I’m open to recommendations!

It’s important to note that the benefits of IV therapy aren’t universally proven, and it can be pricey. When I told my sister about my appointment, she generously prepaid for the session as a birthday gift. Thanks again, Kate! I was ready to spend $185 for the chance to feel like myself again, and thankfully, I do feel more like myself today. Given that, I’m likely to schedule another session.

How long do the effects last? It varies by individual. Depending on factors like your metabolism and how depleted you are, the benefits may last anywhere from a week to as long as a month. The goal isn’t to rely on IV therapy but to recognize when you're out of balance and take proactive steps to restore that balance before chronic issues arise. For me, this boost is a great start, but I need to work on maintaining my energy levels. After losing quite a bit of weight this summer and falling out of my regular eating routine—combined with my planned foot surgery followed by a prolonged period of inactivity—my energy has definitely been affected. Now that I’ve received this boost, I’ll focus on meal planning and finding a good multivitamin.

If you’re considering IV therapy, do your research, as some treatments have contraindications. Always consult with your doctor and listen to your body. There’s no quick fix for anything; I need to remember to take care of myself and not skip meals. Off to prepare dinner!

Namaste,

Elle
